Dad

*spoiler alert* This post may be a bit graphic. Viewer discretion advised

Dad is still in the hospital, but as of this morning he was doing better.

Recap of what happened.

Mom called Tues night to let me know Dad had been admitted, on fluids and having an infection on his upper right chest area drained.

Next phone call I receive from her is around 7am Wed morning letting me know they are wheeling Dad into ICU and that the operation went a little longer than expected.

*WHAT!!!*

Apparently what they pulled from the infection prompted a quick trip to the OR. Now dad has a 6-8 inch deep incision on the right side of his chest and a much smaller one on his left. They are keeping watch on other questionable areas on his arms and legs. Kidneys have gone on strike so he is on dialysis. They are keeping watch on his oxygen, insulin, blood pressure and all the other fun stuff that needs watching in ICU.

I stayed overnight at the hospital last night with Dad so Mom would go home and sleep. He did look better this morning than he did when I first got to the hospital yesterday. I got home around 10am ish and will be heading back after the evening rush hour. BIL will be taking over the night shift tonight (staying over).

SO no stitchy updates for a while. Working on keeping everything together, waiting on the next update on dad, and brainstorming on what may be needed when he is able to leave the hospital. So far we have been told he is in for a long stay and recovery.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I will be checking email/comments intermittently over the next few days. Your kind messages so far have been very helpful.

  3. Rachel, I am SO sorry to hear this :o( What a thing to deal with. My dad was in hospital a few years ago for weeks due to his heart (he was in better shape though) but it's exhausting both physically and mentally.

I will be thinking of you. Sending you lots of (((HUGS)))
