Seeing clearer

P’s getting glasses.  Got him in to see an eye Dr after him commenting it was hard to see the writing on the boards at school.

It was just a matter of time for this to happen.  Both me and his dad had glasses about his age, both near-sighted and now we’ve done our part and passed that down the DNA chain :P

So after 45 min and eye dilatation (so no more questions about how it feels!  woot!) he picked out smart frames which we get to pick up sometime next week.

DL and I go in for our checkups in a couple weeks.  Im fully expecting to get glasses again (had Lasik but thx to darn aging and all that its changing again).  Not sure about DL except having a baseline to work from.

Vacuum news – Ive decided to go with the Eureka AirSpeed.  Unfortunately the only place I can read reviews is on Walmart.com.  Eureka made a deal with Walmart (or the devil – how ever you like to see it) and Walmart is the only place that sells this model.

image Cant tell if all the “My Dyson stinks and doesnt suck but my new AirSpeed sucks much better” are really true.  Big deal for me is its $120 compared to $250 (Dyson at Costco prices) and so doable for me.

I am getting the giggles from all the suck comments.  Thx for the smiles through out today.

Our first vacuum was a wonderful old hover upright that ran for a good 30 years or so before it finally sucked no more (obviously others had it before D and I did).  I was so spoiled!  Next one would still work if I could just find bags for it.  So thats a thx to the company for not allowing that to suck any more :P

The current vacuum that no longer sucks is a Euro-Pro NV31 Infinity.  Sure its bright red, striking and nice to look at (for a vacuum) but the motor causes it not to suck.  Thats my warning to the world.

Stitching – Nothing today.  And I mean nothing, not an x added to anything.  Darn sinus headache makes looking at little holes painful.  I am trying to find what I can do (or take) that thwarts the pain – or at least tricks it so I can stitch.  No heavy sinus meds as all I currently have is the headache and not the stuffy nose or other fun things that come in tandem with a cold (thank god)

Tomorrow – boys and I have a day off.  Will definitely be sleeping in.  Visit to A&T may be in order with a pause at Human Bean (mmm Granita!) and lunch with D.  And hopefully getting some x’s added to something…

Dust bunnies and other household rodents

image Well, I believe our vacuum cleaner of 3 years is a gonner.  We’ve done all we can to keep it going, changing filters, emptying the canister when red lights blink, not running over the cord, but there is just no more pickup left in it.

It sucks (not sure if pun is intended) that house appliances are as puny as they are these days.  Not like I have spare change burning holes in my pockets to keep replacing them.

In other rodent news, Lillith Saintcrow has another entry in her Squirrel!Neo saga.  Im finding myself waiting eagerly for the next installment and then make sure I have the time to read slowly (hard for me to do) so I dont miss anything.

On the wellness front Im feeling better, but definitely have head cold issues.  Finding that using a neti pot at least daily is helping keep stuffy nose at bay.  Just wish it would do the same with the pain in my head :P

I was able to get x’s added today.  My celtic autumn lady has some hair.  No other body part so it looks like a very poor floating wig.  Will be posting pic updates soon.

And so it begins

The cold and flu season.  And this year Im starting it!  The blah Ive had has now settled in my head and chest (oh yea).

And like a good mom who likes to show how to share, Ive shared with P.  Will be watching/seeing how he does this week, thankful there are only two school days remaining and he can have a long weekend to rest up.

I myself stayed home to rest, was glad I did.  Although I did have to battle for a small part of the bed.  Loki, small though he may be, can be a total bed hog.

And not a single x added to anything today.  I had hoped I would get to Celtic Autumn again but just wasnt meant to be.

Did get some shopping done (as nothing was done this weekend).  Included a pork tenderloin that will be crock potting tomorrow with my normal gravy mix, red potatoes and baby carrots.  Got D’s mouth watering already :P

I also spent a bit of time looking through more crock pot recipes for dishes other than meat roasts.  Sure they are easy but meat, potatoes and carrots cannot be had every day!

Still blah

Im still feeling like crud warmed over (now there’s a picture for you) and will be heading off to bed where I will contemplate staying there for a couple of days (and being thankful I can work from home).

I was smart this evening and ordered pizza – cooking just was not in my wants of doing tonight.

Going through the list of blog posts to read I found this one, A pic, a post on the Celtic Lady SAL by Kate.  I never thought of changing the words, and it makes complete sense!  I cant wait to see how she does the changes on Autumn (to Samhain).

I was so moved that I pulled my Autumn out and added some x’s to her.  Well to be truthful she was pulled out this morning but I determined there were too many changes where I was at and not train material.  I dont have an updated pic but will leave an older one, which hasnt changed much.

I also pulled out Mother Maya (Ink Circles) during lunch and started frogging.  I noticed an issue last week and decided not to deal with it then but lunch today was a good time for it.  So, I frogged what I needed to and stitched it back (correctly, triple checked constantly) and I good to go for the next time its pulled out for play time.

Not a single x

was crossed today.  Im still feeling blah and basically sat around.  Laundry and dinner was accomplished but so was much sleeping in my office chair (bed was out due to laundry)

I also spent my down-time day adding more blogs to my ever growing read list as well as looking for much needed slow cooker recipes.  Was able to get a few from A Year of Slow Cooking that I hope to put to the family test.  At least away from meat,  potatoes and carrots with gravy.  Not that Ive had complaints yet.

Did find a couple recipes for turkey, ham and dressing – perfect for Thanksgiving.  Anything’s better than cooking all. day. long. only to have the meal done and over in 15 min (yup, that happened last year and I spent the next day with feet so sore!

One last thing to finish today – season ender of the Glades.

Now where’d I put that cape…

Call me the hero of the hour or really day.

Frantic call from my sister with issues. Her dh is out of town as are our parents and would/could I play taxi for niece #1 as she (sis who also coaches) had 2 games with niece #2 and of course they are at different fields and start close to the same time (cause the gods love seeing how we can split and be at multiple places at the same time)

Being the smart person I am I also offered to take the nephew (child #3 and youngest of that family).  As amusing as it would be to see her deal with niece #2’s soccer team, the games and him, I would not be there to see everything go down (priorities you know).

I had DL and between the two of us the nephew was kept busy during niece #1's game

For those who want to know scores, niece #1 was a tie and they dont keep score for niece #2’s age groups.  Grass stains scored and won against the nephew.

Later in the day found that I wasnt the only parent in the house to be a hero.  D found the problems with the Playstation3 AND Xbox and was promptly booted out of the room for his troubles while DL took over (see where gratitude gets you?)

My reward for my heroism is coming down with whatever flu/stomach bug is out there and D’s reward is putting up with me.

Not what I call a win/win
